Family Friendly Activities in the Mountains

Vacationing in the mountains of Park City is even better when you bring your whole family along. Teaching your kids how to safely navigate the slopes for the very first time is a rite of passage for any skier or boarder, but there’s a ton more to do in Park City than skiing. Whether you’re a fan of flying high over the mountain on the Flying Eagle Zipline or you want to teach your kids about the history of this mining town at the Park City Museum, there’s an activity for every personality available in the area.

So next time you bring the kids along for a family vacation to this mountain wonderland, here’s 7 fun things to do that you and your young ones will remember for years to come.

#1: Flying Eagle Zipline

No matter if you’ve decided to visit Park City during the wintertime or the summer months, one activity is always open that will thrill your whole family: the Flying Eagle Zipline. Take your next vacation to new heights with a hair-raising zipline experience that soars down across mountain vistas. If you’re worried about safety, this ride provides more protection than traditional ziplines with harnesses, featuring a two-person seat so you can ride along with your kids.

#2: Tubing at Woodward Park City

Woodward Park City is an action sports complex with tons of activities available, but tubing is by far the most popular. No more hiking to the top of a snowy hills to tube down–there’s even magic carpet conveyor belts that will take you straight to the top. And with 7 lanes and over 1,200 feet of track to glide over, it’s hard not to have a good time sliding down the mountain. Be careful about packing your tube with the whole family, however, unless you want to slide down at top speed–the more weight in your tube, the faster you’ll go!

#3: Park City Museum

If you’re looking for a quiet rainy-day activity for the family with some educational value, think about stopping in at the Park City Museum. Established in 1984 by the Park City Historical Society, this museum has a ton of permanent exhibits that show the history of Park City’s first settlers as well as the miners who made this area their home. There’s also an exhibit in the basement, the old location of Park City Territorial Jail, where kids can learn about the notorious criminals who were kept there back in the early days of the town.

#4: Go For a Swim at Homestead Crater

Homestead Crater is home to a geothermal marvel that the whole family will fall in love with: a hot spring located within a limestone crater. This 65-foot deep hot spring sit at a balmy 95 degrees year round and is a popular swimming hole for locals and tourists alike.

This is one dip in a swimming pool that you’ll remember for the rest of your lives, and it is also well-known as one of the coolest places to scuba dive in all of Utah.

#5: Utah Olympic Park

While neither you nor your family may have what it takes to ski on the big jumps at Utah Olympic Park, there’s still plenty to do at this Park City staple. Built specifically for the Winter Olympics that Park City hosted back in 2002, this park is home to those same tracks today, as well as a ton of hands-on activities for the whole family.

The museum specifically is a great place to learn about the history of the park, as well as about the talented Olympians who took their shot towards glory within its walls.

#6: Ice Skating

There are two locations that you can go ice skating in Park City–at the Park City Ice Arena year-round, and at the outdoor Resort Center Ice Rink during the winter months. The former is a sizeable hockey rink with plenty of room for you to practice your moves, while the latter is better for beginners who just want to skate around a bit before imbibing on some hot chocolate. There are plenty of tools available for beginners, so even the kids will have fun at this activity!

#7: Alpine Coaster

The Park City Alpine Coaster is barrels of fun for thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies who want to fly down the mountain in style. This coaster features over a mile of track, complete with a variety of hair-pin turns that take you through the mountain forests as you race down. If it’s going too fast, there’s always manual brakes to help slow it down for any kids that might be a bit stressed with the speed.
