Exploring the Cross Country and Nordic Ski Scene in Breck

There is nothing more relaxing than cross country skiing on a perfectly-groomed trail as mountain vistas unfold before your eyes, and there’s few better places to make this serene vision a reality than in Breckenridge. With endless miles of groomed and ungroomed cross country trails along with abundant Nordic ski centers to choose from, Breckenridge is a paradise for those who can’t get enough of the snowy outdoors.

In today’s blog, we’ll give you the inside scoop on a few places where you can enjoy groomed and ungroomed trails on your next winter trip to Breck.

Enjoy Architecture and Mountain Landscapes at the Breckenridge Nordic Center

If you are a fan of both Nordic skiing and frontier architecture, you can’t miss out on the Breckenridge Nordic Center. Not only does this expansive outdoor recreation area offer 40 kilometers of groomed trails, much of which passes through beautiful Cucumber Gulch Nature Preserve, but there’s also a handful of gorgeous buildings to explore on the property as well that were all built by the center’s founder, Gene Dayton.

Since the late 1960s, Dayton has groomed the trails around the center and worked tirelessly to turn the property into one of the most sought-after Nordic skiing destinations in the country. It shows in every inch of the center, from the groomed trails to the gorgeous Oh Be Joyful Lodge, which often hosts weddings and other events.

Get a Unique Experience at Gold Run Nordic Center

Not looking to spend a pretty penny to ski some cross country trails? Check out the Gold Run Nordic Center, which offers 27 kilometers of classic cross country trails as well as skate-style ski trails.

For those who are hoping to get a private tour or learn how to Nordic ski for the first time, Gold Run also offers some of the most knowledgeable instructors and guides in the area who will teach you everything you need to know. Plus, the views can’t be beat, and the center also has a ton of other activities to participate in, including sleigh rides and fat biking tours. If you truly enjoy the outdoors during the wintertime, there’s no better bang for your buck than Gold Run.

Revel in Free Cross Country Trails near the Breckenridge Rec Center

Another option for cross country skiing that won’t break the bank is the Recpath, a free 8-mile public groomed ski trail that stretches from the Breckenridge Rec Center to the Frisco Adventure Park near Frisco Nordic Center. There are two different types of tracks laid out on this trail, with both the classic cross country trail as well as areas for skate skiers and fat bikers to utilize.

Another benefit to skiing on this trail is that it’ll take you close to Frisco Nordic Center, an area that offers cross country skiing over 30 kilometers of classic trails. Be aware that in order to utilize the Frisco Nordic Center trails, you’ll have to acquire a trail pass to do so.

Ski Over Gorgeous Terrain at the Frisco Nordic Center

Whether you’d like to make a day of it and ski the 8 miles from Gold Run Nordic Center to Frisco Nordic Center or you’re looking to make the quick drive down Highway 9, you can’t miss out on this Best of Summit Country 2023 Nordic center.
