Best Instagram-Worthy Photography Spots in Breckenridge

Capture Some Shots of Breck’s Gorgeous Surroundings

Breckenridge is filled to the brim with opportunities for photography. Whether you’re a beginner who loves to share your work on Instagram and other social media applications or you’re a professional looking for more interesting settings for your next shots, there’s an endless variety of mountain landscapes and historical areas to explore around Breck.

In this blog, we’ll explore a handful of the best Instagram-worthy photo spots in this quaint mountain town and help you figure out the best times of year to visit them.

#1: Capture a Photo with the Giant Troll, Isak Heartstone

Although it might not be the most scenic area on our list, no trip to Breckenridge is complete without capturing the whimsy and sheer artistic beauty of the giant troll sculpture located on the Trollstigen Trail, Isak Heartstone. This huge art installation nearly tore the town apart after it was first built near a residential area by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, but since its move over near the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, it’s become more easily accessible to travelers without causing parking problems.

Isak’s new location offers some incredible opportunities for photography, whether you and your family want to pose in front of him or you’re looking to capture the sculpture during sunset as the colors flow across the sky. While the trail is not maintained during the wintertime, it’s easy enough to access this spot during most times of the year since there’s minimal elevation gain.

#2: Fall in Love with the Views at Sapphire Point Overlook

If you’re looking for a spot that’s perfect for a romantic photoshoot or you’re just wanting to capture the magic of the mountain beauty, Sapphire Point Overlook can’t be beat. Located off of Swan Mountain Road about 15 minutes north of Breck, the Sapphire Point Trail is a short but sweet hike (only 0.6 miles long) that’ll give you access to incredible views of the Tenmile Range as well as the gorgeous waters of Dillon Reservoir.

Visitors who are coming during the winter months might find this trail a bit too snow- and ice-packed for their liking, but if you’re not against snowshoeing and cross country skiing to get in some incredible shots, you won’t find better views anywhere else.

#3: Take a Drive Through the Mountains to Boreas Pass

For those who are hoping to capture some of the gorgeous fall colors that Breckenridge is so famous for, there’s no better place to find some Instagram-worthy photography locations than along the Boreas Pass.

Not only is the nine-mile stretch of road between Breckenridge and Boreas Pass one of the most beautiful scenic drives in the area, but the payoff is more than worth it for budding photographers who are looking for mountain scenery to capture or use as a background in a photoshoot. Plus, there’s other sights to see along the way, including the old Boreas Pass Railroad Station and the Continental Divide. No matter where you stop along this road, you’re sure to find a spot to take a photograph that you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.

#4: Capture Some Historic Charm on Main Street

Not looking to travel far but still want to capture some drool-worthy photos that truly encapsulate your Breckenridge visit? Take a walk along downtown’s Main Street to capture some quintessential Breckenridge views. There are countless shops, boutiques, and restaurants along Main Street’s stretch, each with its own bit of historical charm and ambiance. Whether you’re hoping to just get in some street photography or you’re looking to curate a photoshoot, you won’t find a much more convenient and quaint place than Main Street.

#5: Go On the Gondola for Unbeatable Mountain Vistas

No matter if your visit falls during the ever-popular ski season in Breck or you’re planning to come during the warmer months, taking a trip up one of the gondolas to access mountain vistas is never a bad idea.

The Cucumber Gulch Gondola is a great way to visit the base of Peak 8, and whether it’s covered in a frosty layer of snow or filled with fields of verdant wildflowers, this spot makes a perfect location for landscape photography or a photoshoot with friends and family. One of the best parts of taking this gondola in particular is that it passes above the Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve, which is home to an abundance of Breck’s wildlife like elk and deer. Not only can you take amazing photos from the gondola itself, but once you reach the base of Peak 8, there’s even more photography opportunities awaiting you on the mountain.
