8 Unique and Fun Ways to Enjoy Breckenridge

Winter and Summer Fun

The main draw of visiting Breckenridge is winter activities, whether that’s skiing or boarding at Breckenridge Ski Resort or sledding at Carter Park, but there truly is so much more to Breck than just snowy fun. It is a unique town, with its own individual charm, and there are plenty of fun things to do both on and off the beaten path.

Today we’ve gathered 8 unique and fun activities for you to enjoy next time you visit the snowy mountain town of Breck.

#1: Spend a Fun-Filled Day at Epic Discovery

If you’re planning a visit to Breckenridge during the warmer months, spending a day at Epic Discovery should be at the top of your list, especially if you’re vacationing with kids.

Located at Peak 8 in Breckenridge Resort, you’ll have to take the free BreckConnect gondola in order to access this park, but once there, you and your family will never want to leave. There are so many things to do, including riding the Alpine Slide and the Gold Runner Coaster or challenging yourself on the Alpineer Challenge Course and the Gold Summit Climbing Wall.

#2: Enjoy Yourself at the Breckenridge Recreation Center

Are you looking for healthy and fitness-oriented activities during your next vacation to Breckenridge? Look no further than the Breckenridge Recreation Center, which features a full aquatics center with two pools and two spas, a whole roster of different fitness classes, and outdoor activities as well, such as the rock climbing wall and the Breckenridge Skate Park. No matter how the weather looks, there’s a ton to do at this rec center and it’s perfect for anyone looking for some indoor exercise on a rainy or snowy day.

#3: Attend a Play at Backstage Theatre

Backstage Theatre has a long and storied history in Breckenridge, beginning in 1974 as Summit County’s very first non-profit organization and growing into the well-known cultural center for Breck residents that it is today. The Backstage Theatre puts on year-round theatrical productions, including musicals, mysteries, and melodramas, and this hidden gem is a must-see during your next visit to Breck.

#4: Bring the Kids to Mountaintop Children’s Museum

This next activity is for the kids: a visit to Mountaintop Children’s Museum. Since 2001, this children’s museum has offered a place for kids to learn in a fun and informal setting, with interactive exhibits and educational programming to get kids excited about learning. Your kids will fall in love with the variety of exhibits available, such as the Rocky Mountain Wildlife exhibit where kids can learn the basics of fly fishing and animal identification.

#5: Dog Sled with Goodtimes Adventures

One of the most fun and unique wintertime activities in Breckenridge is riding on a dog sled through the snowy terrain.

With Goodtimes Adventures, you’ll be carried away on a 6-mile tour of the trails that wind through Swan River Valley from the comfort of a dog sled. Although you won’t get to ride in the dogsled the entire time, there is an opportunity to capture photos and videos of the tour from the back of a snowmobile as you relay with other guests.

#6: Visit Country Boy Mine

Back in the mining days of Breckenridge, Country Boy Mine was well-known as one of the few gold mines in the area. Today, it offers the only opportunity in town to tour a historic gold mine. Guests will wander 1000 feet underground in this epic tour, where they will learn about the historic uses of the mine as well as how it is currently operating. Visitors to this spot will also be able to pan for gold, and keep what they find!

#7: Go on a Sleigh Ride

Wintertime in Breckenridge is magical, and what better way to celebrate that magic than going on a scenic horse-pulled sleigh ride through the snow? There are a few different options for scenic sleigh rides in town, and a few even offer a steaming cup of hot chocolate to go along with it. If you’d like to make your ride even more romantic, there are also dinner sleigh rides available, where visitors can take a gorgeous 20-minute ride to a camp where a three-course meal will be served in a cozy, lamp-lit tent while live music plays in the background.

#8: Snowshoe on the Trails in Breck

Snowshoeing is not just a fun way to get around in the snow–it’s also one of the coolest ways to explore the snowy mountain terrain. Next time you’re in Breck, strap on your snowshoes for a winter hike of your dreams. There are plenty of groomed trails at the Gold Run Nordic Center and the Breckenridge Nordic Center, which together offer over 30 miles of terrain for snowshoers and cross country skiers to enjoy.
